What to wear to The Henna party

Friday afternoon and evening, everyone is invited to the Henna party where we'll have dinner, Menhendi (henna tattoo) artists, dancing and DJs until late. It's going to be a lot of fun.

You may be wondering what's a Henna Party and what to wear. The main thing is to pick something in a vibrant color that matches the festive mood. We want everyone to have fun, be themselves and be comfortable. So we've provided a few tips and suggestions to help you out.

female guests

  • Color: wear vibrant colours; please avoid red, which is traditionally associated with bridal wear.
  • Shoes: no stilletos please on Friday.
  • Jewelry: complete your saree or lehenga with accessories and jewelry.

male guests

    • What to wear: A lot of guys will wear a kurta, which is traditionally worn at a Menhendi party. But you can also "wing it" and wear a loose long-sleeve shirt and pants.
    • Kurta ("collarless shirt"): a loose, long sleeve shirt that drops to the knee. Popular in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, it's commonly worn with a paijama pant (tighter around the calves), as well as jeans, khakis, etc. A sherwani or bandhgala suit works as well. Ben can pick up a Kurta for you from Damini's in London (~$100). There's also shops in Berkeley, NYC, etc.
    • Shawl/Scarf optional
    • Sandals or shoes, commonly a pointed toe mojari/jutti.

Semi-formal at the Wedding and receptioN

    • Female Guests: A cocktail dress or a dressy skirt and top.
    • Male Guests: a suit and tie, dark or light; a summer suit or festive attire's fine (wedding dress codes).
